This route was a bit nasty: steep slopes, sloppy garbage snow, cliffs below and more loose rock. We had to travel very slowly one at a time not to kick rocks at each other. I’m not sure if this was the best way, but from other reports it seemed like a decent option. Eventually we gained the SE side of the summit and trudged through fresh, knee-deep snow to the formal summit cairn. The summit is very large and at this point shrouded in fog, making the views minimal. We topped out after 7.5hrs, rested, ate snacks, and headed down.
We made good time on the way down, still moving carefully. At one point we looked back towards the summit and watched a slide of snow and mud come down off of our route. That was slightly unnerving. However, the weather began to open up and soon we were hiking in the sunshine with views all around. We could see Seton Lake, Mission Ridge, and Lillooet. We took our short cut back down, which looked a bit alarming when reassessing, but wasn’t bad. The bush was dried and much more pleasant. We made it to the truck in just over 12.5h round trip. |
