It always blows me away how many people feel the need to go away on vacation for adventure instead of taking time to explore their surrounding mountains, forests, and beaches. I lived on Vancouver Island from the day I was born until I was 28 years old, and I still feel like there is so much I haven't seen on the Island alone. I am always looking for adventure and devising a plan for how I can explore the unknown.
I was raised in a small town called Gold River. For those who have never been, it is nestled in a small valley about an hour west of Campbell River. It is an old pulp mill town with a population of around 1200. When I was younger and the pulp mill was running, the population was probably more between 2000-3000. Gold River was an amazing place to grow up for those who love the outdoors. Growing up in Gold River I developed a craving to be outside.
My dad was an avid hiker, mushroom picker, fisherman, and explorer of the area (although he would probably down play that statement). He inspired my love for hiking, mountain biking, and adventuring.
When I went to nursing school and for a number of years afterward I lived in Victoria. I worked as an RN specializing in cardiology and emergency Nursing and gained plenty of experience. While Victoria is a beautiful city, I felt trapped and often drove north in order to get away from the hustle and bustle and spend time in the woods. It became almost a biweekly event to head up Island and camp, hike, bike, surf, race… You name it. However, most recently I moved to Lillooet, BC, which is a small town of around 2400 nestled between many rugged mountains in the Southern Interior. I live with my dog Mr Sparks and wife Darryl, otherwise known as my adventure buddies and partners in crime. I am excited to settle in and start to explore some new terrain.
I created this blog so that I can inspire others to explore the vast beauty that our province has to offer. Also, to share pictures and stories with those I know, and rekindle memories that sometimes tend to fade over time.
I hope you enjoy, cheers!
