To get there drive along Happy Valley Rd towards Metchosin. Turn left on Glen Forest Way and immediately become envious of all the people that own BEAUTIFUL HUGE houses on this road... Glen Forest Way eventually turns into Sundance Drive. Take a left from Sundance onto Saddleback Rd and then a right on Hackamore Drive and stay right. On the left hand side, close to the end of the road, you will notice a small trail that starts, this is it!
Metchosin Mountain is a very easy 2km loop. It is a stunning hike with beautiful views of the ocean, Metchosin Golf Course, and downtown Victoria. A great place to let the dog run free and explore a little bit. The trail here starts out small, but eventually hits a wider path, which you must take a left on. If you keep right you end up just skirting some private property. The forest here to the top is stunning. You walk among huge old trees and crooked arbutus until you eventually pop out onto some grassy bluffs that overlook the surrounding area. To do the trail as a loop we stuck right, which is the side of the mountain with all the views. Eventually the trail curved left and headed back around to the ascent trail. It was a nice warm sunny day and I could envision us coming back in the summer to watch a sunset with tasty beer. The bluffs along the summit were flat and grassy (not to be confused with fat and sassy...) and would be great to lay and star gaze on a clear night.
