Revelstoke has always intrigued me as a great spot to find adventure. Recently Darryl and I were able to take a three night trip there to explore the area. Originally I had big plans to big Frisby Ridge and hike in Glacier National Park. Unfortunately due to some damage to the trail and poor conditions Frisby Ridge will most likely not open this year. The weather was also quite nasty when we were there making a long hike in Glacier National Park daunting. Therefore, we settled on a hike to Eva Lake in Mount Revelstoke National Park and a bike ride on the trails of Mount Macpherson. I figured if we needed to bail for rain at least we would be closer to town.
The first night we arrived just after dark in the pouring rain. There is no worse feeling then rolling up to an unfamiliar place and pitching a tarp and tent with speed to avoid getting soaked. However, we did it. We spent the night getting just dumped on by buckets and buckets of rain. Luckily we stayed nice and dry.
When we awoke the next morning the rain started to ease slightly and we made plans to do Eva Lake with a friend of Darryl's. To access the trail to Eva Lake we drove up the Meadows in the Sky Parkway, which consists of a number of paved steep switchbacks that wind up Mount Revelstoke. The views on the way up are stunning and the parking lot is all the way up in the subalpine. From the final parking lot one is able to take a shuttle to a higher point where the trail to Eva Lake begins. We however had our dog so we walked the 1.5kms to this point.
After about 1hr and 20mins we arrived at Eva Lake. It was a beautiful green colour and surrounded by mountains. Unfortunately the weather was cold and damp so we did not stay too long. Just had a quick snack and turned around.
One thing I know for sure is that we will certainly have to return to this area. Revelstoke is a quant little tourist town with plenty to offer.
